Dr. Matthew Brant Performs Total Ankle Replacement, Relieving Patient’s Pain

Orchid Jackson, a 55-year-old resident of Millville, New Jersey, has been suffering from severe post-traumatic ankle arthritis ever since she experienced a broken ankle that would not heal correctly in 2005.

After talking with a doctor and learning of the total ankle replacement procedure, Orchid became determined to get relief and undergo the surgery and dedicated her time to getting active and becoming ready.

“They wanted to make sure I could recover well, so I did my part to make that happen,” says Orchid. “I lost around 90 pounds.”

Orchid’s total ankle replacement surgery was performed by Matthew Brant, D.P.M., of Virtua Reconstructive Orthopedics in November 2017.

“I came out of surgery fine,” says Orchid. “The surgery went fine, and I had no pain afterward.”

To be able to offer and perform this type of surgery, Dr. Brant had to undergo additional training from Stryker and become certified with their STAR™ implant. The STAR is a three-piece ankle implant that provides a more natural feel. Dr. Brant is the only surgeon south of Philadelphia offering this procedure.

“Dr. Brant is an excellent surgeon,” says Orchid. “He keeps you informed, and if you need him, he’s there for you.”
