Dr. Michael Hodde is an interventional spine specialist with fellowship training in the diagnosis and nonsurgical interventional management of painful neuromusculoskeletal disorders. He is double-board-certified in both physical medicine and rehabilitation and in pain medicine. Dr. Hodde is an active member of multiple rehabilitation and interventional pain societies and has co-authored a textbook chapter on the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. Currently, he is co-authoring a technical manual for nonoperative interventional spine treatment modalities. He has presented locally to the community, for grand rounds at local universities, and at national meetings on interventional and noninterventional musculoskeletal and pain techniques.

His experience in the safe and effective performance of minimally invasive fluoroscopic-guided spinal interventions includes epidural injections, selective nerve root blocks, sacroiliac joint injections, facet injections and medial branch blocks/radiofrequency denervation, and peripheral joint injections. He also has experience using ultrasound for the diagnosis of peripheral joint and musculoskeletal disorders, as well as for enhanced precision of the safe and effective use of peripheral joint injections, nerve blocks, and percutaneous needle fenestrations for chronic tendon disorders.

Dr. Hodde is passionate about preventing conditions before they arise, but when they do, he prefers treating them effectively with education, postural and mechanical correction through exercise and rehabilitation, and the minimally invasive techniques mentioned above.

Dr. Hodde is originally from Michigan, where he completed his undergraduate studies in kinesiology and athletic training at Michigan State University, and where he worked with Division I athletes on both injury prevention and rehabilitation. He subsequently attended medical school at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. There, he acquired additional skills in understanding the intricacies of the musculoskeletal system and biomechanics and ways to work with patients to improve form and function. He was ultimately honored with The Fred L. Mitchell, Sr., D.O., F.A.A.O., Memorial Award for Exceptional Achievement in the Field of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. He then completed a traditional rotating internship at St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor Hospital in Michigan, where he was honored as the Transitional Intern of the Year. His studies then brought him to Philadelphia, where he completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Temple University Hospital/Moss Rehab. There, he served as chief resident and was honored as the Resident Educator of the Year. Following completion of his residency training, he was accepted to complete his fellowship training in interventional spine and musculoskeletal medicine at the prestigious University of Pennsylvania. Upon completion of his fellowship, he stayed on as faculty and eventually served as the assistant fellowship director before leaving to come to Virtua Reconstructive Orthopedics.

Dr. Hodde lives in Philadelphia with his wife, two daughters, and his dog. While not at work, he enjoys staying active, playing with the kids, watching movies, reading, and learning about both physical and mental personal growth.

Dr. Hodde was forthcoming with information, even more than in the past. The other doctor I saw was also very good. I felt comfortable with them both.

I gave Dr. Hodde a description of my symptoms, and he suggested I get an MRI of my back; he made arrangements for a prescription to get one.
