Sports medicine is the focused study and application of the principles of physiology, anatomy, surgery, and rehabilitation as they relate to human movement and physical activity. It is a wide-ranging discipline incorporating all aspects of disease and injury prevention, the management of medical problems in exercising individuals, surgical management of musculoskeletal injuries, as well as the prescription of exercise for improving physical fitness and preventing disease.
