Dr. Jeffrey Murray on Untreated Rotator Cuffs

Jeffrey Murray, D.O., M.S.P.T., a fellowship-trained sports medicine specialist, explains how untreated rotator cuff injuries can progress and lead to rotator cuff arthropathy.

Please see below for the full video transcript.

If a rotator cuff is left untreated and does not undergo repair, there is a chance that it will progress. And patients with long-term irreparable rotator cuff tears can develop a secondary condition called rotator cuff arthropathy, which is a form of arthritic change in the shoulder because the rotator cuff is no longer there and functioning. They can often times require a type of shoulder replacement in the future if their shoulder will progress to that with no treatment of rotator cuff tear.
